> Interacting with a highly established project location like Sabbioneta requires respect and calibration.
The sixteenth-century fortified citadel, the result of the mind of Vespasiano Gonzaga, is unique as it has been preserved substantially intact until today.
The assigned project site was in the north of the city, between the Bulwark of St. Nicholas and the ecclesiastical complex of the Church of the Incoronata and the convent of the Serviti.
The intent of the project from the beginning was to mend the connection between the city and the Bastion. In fact, the architectural composition is divided into two parts: the base and the upper floor. At the base there are workshop spaces and a cafeteria, while on the upper floor there is a light and large exhibition space, in strong relationship with the bastion and the landscapes. Everything is bonded toghether with the "empty core" that essentially provides a covered open space and the passive vertical movement device (ramp) between the two levels, city and bastion.
We had the honour and pleasure to develop this project with the architect master Andrew Berman, that reviewed our project and suggested solutions for our project.
